Interpersonal communication is one of the most crucial aspects throughout my personal and work life. It is not merely about the use of words; instead, it is about the exchange of words, the ability to grasp, as well as the mutual respect that people can have. There was a time when I almost lose a best friend due to a clash in misunderstanding. Finally, it was a hard lesson to learn, but such a thing helps me realize how every single word matters when communicating and how important it is to strive for the clarity of one’s thoughts and the manifestation of empathy towards another person.
Personal Lessons I Learned in Communication
I also experience a conflict with a friend once because of some inconsequential issue, and we escalated the fight because we were not listening to each other. Anger rose to the fore and we said things that were not healthy for the friendship. I learned how important it is to listen and to express one’s self because carelessness in communication can cause a relationship to end.
Ever since that day I ensured that I paid a lot of attention towards my words and the way I communicate. I began training myself to be an active listener and to just partially focus on listening to what was said without necessarily thinking how I will counter them. I also mastered how to speak properly, with fewer proverbs and how to ask probes when one was not sure of what the other was talking about. I noted these changes created a difference in the relationship I had with other people and that of them with me as we understanding each other better.
Communication in My Career
Effective Communication is very crucial in every organizations and throughout my whole career and I’m glad I have mastered this one very important skill. It has helped me to develop good working relationships with a team and solve conflicts. Holistic interaction or communication is quite effective when it is clear, honest and empathetic so that it leads to achievement and order.
As I stand, I remember a certain complicated task that was assigned to the group with a lot of pressure to complete it within a short time. There were conflicts most of the time and people felt that they could not understand each other very well. I noticed that we would require proper communication if we were to triumph. I started daily meetings so that all of the people could say something, whether it would be a problem, an idea, or a report. These meetings transformed into an environment where everyone could report concerning incidents – this made us deal with the problems at the spot and learn ways in which we can cooperate better.
Besides, we improved the relations within the team for me, and for the company as well, since the important project was completed on time while maintaining the main values of transparency and empathy. The activities served to strengthen my opinion that communication is the key to success in any endeavor.
